Tokyo Disney Resort
Everyting you need to know about the Tokyo Disney Resort
I always suggest doing at least a day at each park. Beyond that is dealer's choice. We have done 2 and 2, as well as 3 and 2. We always come down on the side of more days at Disneyland than DisneySea if it isn't an even split. While DisneySea is more unique (only one in the world) and does have some great rides, we tend to find Disneyland has more rides that are for the kids.
I would suggest that in the weeks leading up to going, you have already downloaded the app, setup your account, and got aquainted with it so you are ready to go! Then, keep an eye on wait times for rides at times of day, and which day. That way you know which ones to beeline for, and which you can get to after!
Disneyland
Obviously just do the things you want to do. I'm going to call out some of my favourites though, because there are some unexpected ones in there!
- Jungle Cruise - yes, it is in Japanese, BUT if you get a good boat captain like we did it is still really fun and a good laugh.
- Enchanted Tale of Beaty and the Beast - this is just amazing. There is one bit of magic, where even when you have looked up how they do it, you still can't see it happen!
- Pooh's Hunny Hunt - An absolute favourite, but I am a Pooh fiend
- Mickey's PhilharMagic - we didn't do this until the last evening we were there for about the 10th day in total. Can't believe we never did it before, we all loved it! The kids still talk about it
- Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek! - this has been a favourite of ours for a while
So, those are my do not miss! Aside from that, do all you can, get a popcorn bucket, get some ears, and have the best time ever!
DisneySea
Here are my must do rides:
- Toy Story Mania - I (and the kids) absolutely love this one! It's really fun
- Aquatopic - only warning is if you are in summer, and they turn on soak mode, they really do mean soak
- Anna and Elsa's Frozen Journey - you have to get into Fantasy Springs, and having done that you have to do the rides!
- Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure - this was probably my favourite ride from our last trip
- Jasmine's Flying Carpets - do it at night
- Ariel's Grotto - just the area in general, and the inside rides (Jellyfish and Blowfish)
- Journey to the Centre of the Earth
There you have it. Yes, the must do list is longer for DisneySea but I still think Disneyland is better. Must do doesn't include other classics like Alice's Tea Party, or It's a Small World. Plus, there is the factor of how long the waits for the rides are and which you will be able to do multiple times or not.
I do also think the food in general is better at Disneyland. They aren't trying to force in weird sea dishes as much!
Disney Premier Access (DPA)
DPA is paid admission to certain rides/experiences to skip the queue. There are times when I think this is worth it FOR SURE. Some rides will have a line all the time, that never gets better, and you are not willing to stand in for 2 hours. When that is the case, pay the $20 and skip the line. Beware though that the slots do sell out. You are buying 1 of x slots in a 1 hour time window. So, go back to study the app for wait times in the week leading up to going and know which rides you will just have to do this for and commit early!
If you need this to do Beauty and the Beast, it's worth it. You might also want to consider for a spot for a parade. In DisneySea, again I can't stress enough that the Peter Pan Never Land Adventure is great, maybe for Frozen, or Toy Story Mania.
40th Anniversary Priority Pass
Consider this as free DPA. At Disneyland I would focus on trying to get this for Pooh's Hunny Hunt or Monsters Inc. Both end up with long lines, and you will want to do both. Probably in that order too. You can get multiple of these, but you have to wait either 2 hours or after your first ride with one of these period end time. e.g. you have 11.20-12.20 entrace to Pooh's Hunny Hunt that you secured at 10am. Then come midday you can try for another one. Or same window but you did it at 10.30, then at 12.20 you can try for another.
At DisneySea it's probably Raging Spirits or Indiana Jones to use this for.
You will need the app!
Entry Reqest
The shows they put on are actually pretty great! You can make an entry request to try to get a ticket (free) to a show. They are basically a lottery, but there are quite a few times through the day and we've usually managed to at least see something! There is also the DPA option as well, if you are keen. I'm not sure I would do that, personally, but if you only have one day and want to do as much as possible, then go for it!
