Akihabara
Akihabara is a marketed as the home of electronics and anime culture. What it is, in reality, is an area that does have a lot of that, but no more than you can find elsewhere, but it is more expensive and overwhelmingly busy most of the time. Like, it's the one really oppressive crowd place I've found. Will that stop you from going? Probably not, but you have been warned!
What to do
Arcades
There are arcades here (as in a lot of Tokyo), so you can easily find Taito Station and GiGO (formerly SEGA). These are always fun, tbh. You want to be ideally paying 100 yen per play on the small to medium prize claw machines, and 200 yen for the big ones. If you are paying more than that, you are getting ripped off! The claw machines are always fun, and we have always managed to win thing, especially the small things, but quite often at least one big one as well. Last trip we ended up having to buy a few extra bags from 3coins to lug them home!
Electronics
There are some big Bic Camera and Yodobashi stores here. These aren't exclusively for electronics, but they have a heck of a lot of them! So if you are after a camera, lens, whatever you might have some luck. They also have like toys sections and all sorts. Think of it as a better version of Myer, without the clothes.
