Ginza
Ginza is a pretty upscale area of Tokyo. It has all the luxury brands for fashion and jewelry etc. But, shockingly, that isn't why I like it! There are a lot of convenient train lines, things to do either in or nearby, and just a nice vibe when your strolling around.
Where to Stay
We've stayed in a few places here, that are pretty close to one another. The first is HIZ Hotel, and the second is the MONday Apart Ginza East.
HIZ Hotel Ginza
This was kinda like an AirBNB except run by a company type vibe? Like, think serviced apartment that isn't serviced. The price and location were good, and it was pretty spacious for Japanese standards. We had 2 bedrooms, plus the kitchen and living area and bathroom. The bedrooms weren't massive, one in particular was tiny. And the beds weren't great. But, it was fine overall and I would stay again I think.
MONday Apart Ginza East
This place was a bit more modern and stylish compared to HIZ Hotel. It is a hotel (part of a nice chain) and so there is what you would expect from that. I think the default cleaning is every few days, but that is always fine with us.
A few big selling points of this are its convenience of location (several train lines, plus several playgrounds only a short walk), the shower room has a drying setting, so you can easily setup clothes to dry either through the night or while you are out during the day. There is a washing machine in the room! We actually loved it here, so are returning again this year.
What to do
Itoya
If you have ever enjoyed a trip to Officeworks, then you definitely will enjoy this. It is 12 floors of stationery! As you would expect, things are organised and laid out well. You have a floor for pens, a floor for paints etc. It does get very busy though, so you will have to put up with that aspect of it, but it is really good. I think if there are things you are looking for, then have a clear idea in mind before you go, as it's hard to just browse. But it's also fine for a general wander. Just, I think if you know a vibe of what you want and want to browse that particular section you will need more patience than I have. Cafe at the top is decent too! While this is an amazing shop, my actual favourite for stationery is the Loft store in Shibuya.
Hakuhinkan Toy Park
If you have kids, or a hunting a gift for one, definitely stop by here!
Tokyo Character Street
If this has not come across your feed through google, TikTok, something in your "what to do in Tokyo" searches, then I would be flabbergasted! If that kinda thing floats your boat (and why wouldn't it?!) then check it out. It can be pretty hectic down there, and a little bit overwhelming. So make sure you are in a bit of a zen headspace and not going to be rushing.
Art Aquarium Museum
Take it or leave it. If you have the time to kill, it's pleasant. Would I recommend it as a "oh you really should..."? No, I would not.
Food
Okonomiyaki Kiji
Here is a sneaky little food rec. There is like a food mall deal at this station. And this okonomiyaki place was really good. Like, we tried it one trip, sought it out the next! Order 1 for your imaginary friend, because you will devour the first so fast you will wish you had more to eat.
